What is Admissions Day?
Admissions day is one of the most anticipated events of the year for kids and parents. This is a day to celebrate with family and friends. It is also a day to prepare for the next school year. There are many schools across the country that will be having special events and open houses. These events will help you decide which schools to apply to and how to prepare your student for the upcoming school year.
Los Angeles public schools
One of the most important days of the school year is Admission Day. Although there has not been a formal recognition of the day for many years, most people acknowledge it as the day after Thanksgiving. Aside from the usual suspects like schools, banks and the state unemployment office, the other players include the Los Angeles County Superior Court, which remains open for business.
A number of smaller agencies, including the Los Angeles Unified School District, also have their fair share of holidays. Last year, the district lost around $640 million due to chronic absences. Now, a new independent task force is working to identify the cause and cure. This includes a more nuanced look at the causes of absenteeism and a review of the best practices for managing the process. In particular, the board is looking at reducing student and parent tardiness.
There is much debate about what exactly the LAUSD and other school districts across the state are doing about it. Whether it’s a bluff, a feint or an attempt to squelch an embarrassing past, the question on everyone’s mind is whether it’s enough. For now, the answer is a resounding yes.
The LAUSD has a comprehensive calendar that can be viewed online or in PDF form. While it isn’t exactly an official list, it is an accurate representation of the district’s schedule in a nutshell. From Memorial Day to Veteran’s Day, there are 37 days when schools aren’t in session. Some charter schools have their own versions of the same calendar. To ensure students are learning about the most relevant topics, they may opt to skip a few days and focus on a couple.
Sonoma area
Aside from its historical significance, California Admission Day is also an excuse to celebrate everything that’s awe-inspiring about Sonoma. It’s a good reason to try your hand at wine tasting or take a gander at one of the many museums in the area. Some of the more notable ones include the Sonoma State Historic Park and the Depot Park Museum.
The Sonoma County has a rich history, dating back to at least 12,000 years before Spanish missionaries came calling. Many of the indigenous people of the region lived in the area until the Spanish settled the territory in the early 1700s. For instance, the Pomo tribe had a stronghold in the town of Sonoma. These days, descendants still live in the area.
Although the history of the county is a bit hazy, the Spanish did set up a few missions and settlements in the area. One of the oldest in the state is the Santa Rosa Mission, which is the oldest in the country and was founded in 1697. To this day, the mission remains intact.
California Admission Day is not a holiday in the state, but you can expect businesses to be open on the occasion. There are also numerous events and activities to choose from. From the granddaddy of them all, the Bear Flaggers, to the more pedestrian tours of the many historic sites, you’ll find that the Sonoma area is a great place to spend a few hours on any given day. Just be sure to wear your lucky socks! Besides, no trip to California is complete without a visit to the Sonoma wineries! You’ll be sure to find your cup of joe!
Hawaii
Hawaii Statehood Day (also known as Admissions Day) is a holiday celebrated annually on the third Friday of August. It commemorates the admission of Hawaii into the Union in 1959.

The majority of Hawaiians do not celebrate Statehood Day. However, others believe in the significance of this holiday. Locals may use the day to visit family or spend time with friends.
Many newspapers and periodicals wish Hawaii a happy time as a US state. Others protest the holiday. One group believes it is culturally insensitive to hold a celebration.
Another group of locals believe the holiday is a non-discussed holiday. Aside from this, many people have a day off.
Despite the controversy, there are no major events planned for Hawaii Statehood Day. Instead, there are plenty of free activities to enjoy.
If you are visiting the island, make sure you check your local travel companies. They will likely be running on a state holiday schedule.
If you are a resident of the islands, you will not be able to register your vehicle. Additionally, you will not be able to attend the People’s Open Market.
